On January 7, 2022 several volunteers from the Portland community, VFW Post 4090, VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Post 129 assembled at veteran John Fryover’s temporary home at Sunset Ridge to begin the move to he and wife Annette’s new home on Academy Street.
At 10 am, with the temperatures at -6 degrees, volunteers started loading five pickup trucks and a large U-Haul van with furniture and other household belongings scheduled for the move. The volunteers, along with John’s family, moved the last of the items to their new home around 3 pm.
John and Annette expressed their heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers for making the transition a success.
The Fryovers lost their home on Academy Street, along with their furnishings and belongings, to a fire in May 2021.
John Fryover is a past commander of both VFW Post 4090 and American Legion Post 129 and a disabled Vietnam veteran. John is currently being treated by the Veterans Administration for chronic effects of Agent Orange exposure.
Thank you to Mike Fox, George Warner, Richard Hans, Denny Simon, Jack Shattuck, David Fedewa Jr., Bill Brown, and Bill Almy. Also, thanks to the Fryover family members Devin Cummings, Scott Nurenburg, Mike Marvin, and Brian Black for volunteering your time and/or vehicle to help a veteran in need.
