The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are wrapping up its annual Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy essay programs for the 2023-24 program year. VFW Post 4090 yet again had a strong showing for both contests. The Patriot’s Pen is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students and the Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12. Congratulations to all VFW Post 4090 winners, especially Olivia Stahl, Isabelle Kissane, and Eddy Holcomb for placing at Districts. Olivia placed 3rd in PP and Isabelle placed 3rd in VOD. Eddy was selected as the district VOD winner. He then went on to win at the department level too. Next step… nationals.
It's hard being the big guy at Christmas time... what with all the present wrapping and deliveries. That's why we were excited he was able to stop in VFW 4090 for a quick visit with the children and grandchildren of our members.

On January 7, 2022 several volunteers from the Portland community, VFW Post 4090, VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Post 129 assembled at veteran John Fryover’s temporary home at Sunset Ridge to begin the move to he and wife Annette’s new home on Academy Street.
